“Thank you so much for last year's camp scholarship. My daughter *Sarah is deaf, blind, and autistic. Making
friends is not only hard, it is almost impossible. Summer Camp gave Sarah her first opportunity to have other
children make friends with her. The kids at Camp actually liked Sarah! At the end of Camp, I was given a phone
number by a little girl for me to call her mother to make arrangements for the girls to play. I cried out of happiness.
We had a birthday party at Camp for Sarah. This was the first time that Sarah had other children to share her
birthday with.
“As a single mom, I had to quit work to stay home with Sarah and be there for her before and after her school day.
Her experience last year was so wonderful, that I really would like Sarah to attend Camp again this year. I cannot
afford to send her to Camp by myself, so a camp scholarship will be needed, if she is going to be able to enjoy a
camp this summer. God Bless You.” AM, Bloomington, IN

"I have very bad arthritis. When I had my knees replaced, I couldn't afford to rent all the equipment the doctor said I
needed. I phoned Abilities Unlimited and they lent me all the equipment on the doctor's list. At first I needed a
wheelchair and a commode. They lent me those. Then when I felt a little better, they got me a walker and a cane.
They even brought them to me. I still need the cane and they said I can have it forever!"

"I am terminally ill. When I became too disabled to climb the stairs into my rented house, the director of Abilities
Unlimited found a new, completely accessible apartment for me. She took me to the Housing Authority and helped
me with the paperwork. She convinced my previous landlord to release me from my rental agreement. She even
helped me get a letter from my doctor, so that I could keep my little dog in my new home." E.E. Bloomington, IN

"For several years, my daughter and I have both accessed the services offered by Abilities Unlimited. Abilities
Unlimited has helped us with home modifications, medical equipment and camp scholarships. The staff and
board consistently treat us with respect and consideration. They are wonderful." N.M. Monroe County

"Abilities Unlimited is a unique organization. We count on them for services that we cannot get anywhere else.
From a home health care perspective -- our goal is to keep our patients as safe and independent as possible.
Without Abilities Unlimited's Home Modification and Durable Medical Equipment services, there would be a large
percentage of our patients, who could not remain in their homes." R.T. Home Health Registered Nurse

"In 1989, I hurt my back quite badly. The surgery that was supposed to correct it, made it worse. I became
permanently disabled. For the first year, I had no income and Abilities Unlimited made sure I had the medical
equipment that I needed. Here it is -- 2006 and because my disability income is so low, I still need help with
medical equipment. I literally wore out the original equipment that I borrowed. This week, Abilities lent me new
equipment to replace the things I had worn out. Without the equipment from Abilities, I would have problems with
everything from taking a bath to getting out of my house.

"Our furnace gave out. We were able to purchase a new furnace, but then the electrician told use it would be too
dangerous to use the furnace, without new wiring. We'd spent all our savings on the new furnace and couldn't
afford the wiring. I called several places for help, but was turned down. Because I am disabled and have a lot of
medical expenses, my neighbor suggested I call Abilities Unlimited. We met their income guidelines and they said
"Yes" to my request!!!. Without help from Abilities, we would have been mighty cold last winter!" R.D. Monroe County

"I wanted an electrical wheelchair, but couldn't qualify for one through Medicaid. I knew Abilities Unlimited doesn't
have electric wheelchairs, but I decided to call them anyway. I thought they might know how I could find one. The
director told me that they keep a list of people who have electric wheelchairs and hospital beds to give away. I
phoned at just the right time!! A family had called the day before and had an electric wheelchair that they didn't
need anymore. The director at Abilities put me together with the family who wanted to give the chair away. The
family even delivered the wheelchair to my place. It was a win/win situation. My chair is great!" A. J. Ellettsville

"In 2000, I was in a car accident. I broke my leg in two places and tore muscles in my back. When I was ready to
leave the hospital, the hospital gave me a list of equipment that I would need to use at home. I panicked, because
there was no way that I could afford all that stuff! My physical therapist gave me the phone number for Abilities.
Abilities had everything I needed and loaned it to me the day I was released from the hospital. As I got better, I
returned each piece as soon as I was done with it, so that they could get it ready to loan to someone else. What a
blessing it was to not have to go into debt for that equipment!!"
"Then in 2005, I had to go to Indianapolis and have a repair to my right knee. Abilities came through for me again.
I used a wheelchair for a week and then a walker for a month. I walk a lot better now, but some days I have to use
the cane I got from Abilities." G.L. Bloomington

"Dear Abilities Unlimited
Thank you for doing the modifications to our house and steps. We couldn't have afforded to do those things. Now I
don't worry so much that my husband will fall." P.S. Bloomington

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The wheelchair has given me freedom!! L.G. Greene County
